Syracuse, NY, August 12, 2009 - Polaris Library Systems, a leading provider of library-automation technology, announced today that Baltimore County Public Library has selected the Polaris Integrated Library System (ILS). The Polaris ILS will replace the library's TLC CARL system.
"The Baltimore County Public Library is excited about the possibilities in working with Polaris," said its director, Jim Fish. "We look forward to a very productive relationship, one which will yield a great library experience for our county's residents."
Baltimore County Public Library offers patrons a variety of programs that encourage early literacy, summer reading, and library use by K-12 students, as well as information literacy. The library also provides numerous programs that hold informational as well as entertainment value for its patrons. With over 480,000 patrons and 1.5 million items in the collection, the library services a large geographic area with its extensive materials.
"Baltimore County Public Library is dedicated to allocating its collections and services around the diverse needs of its community," said Polaris President & CEO Bill Schickling. "We're thrilled the Polaris ILS will play an integral role in helping the library achieve their goals."
About Baltimore County Public Library
The Baltimore County Public Library came into being as a library system in 1948. Before then, library service in the county was provided by a growing number of independent libraries run by women's clubs and other civic organizations in the community. Since then, much has changed, and new technology and services have been added. The Baltimore County Public Library system now includes seventeen libraries and four bookmobiles.
