“It's great to be able to customize the Polaris checkout screen with patron data elements of our choice.  It maximizes the efficiency of the checkout process.  And with 15 agencies circulating over 7.1 million items per year, it matters.”

Polaris Library Systems Welcomes New Vice President of Product Management

Syracuse, NY, September 19, 2011 - Polaris Library Systems, a leading provider of library automation technology, announced today that Steven Nielsen will assume the role of Vice President of Product Management as of September 27.

Steven began his library career as a technical services clerk at Utah State University's Merrill Library. He went on to become fiscal officer for the Merrill Library and Learning Resources Program, responsible for all financial and administrative functions. While at Utah State, Nielsen wrote or co-wrote several
articles and a book on automation in libraries, and completed a master's degree in public administration.

In 2002, Steven left academia to join Dynix in their efforts to build better library systems to serve both librarians and library users. While there, he was employed in several customer service and product development positions until promoted to Senior Vice President for Product Management.

Most recently, Steven was library director for Bettendorf Iowa Public Library. While there, he earned a master's degree in library science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

"I am very excited to join Polaris," said Nielsen. "I appreciate the customer focus and the dedication of the company to both the library industry and to library users."

"The addition of Steven to our senior management team will allow Polaris to continue to develop innovative solutions that help libraries serve their communities," said Polaris president and CEO Bill Schickling. "Steven's history of involvement in this industry with customers as well as with product development will prove extremely valuable as we continue to collaborate with librarians to navigate the changing landscape."
