Syracuse, NY, February 25, 2009 - Polaris Library Systems, a leading provider of library automation technology, announced today that the Phoenix Public Library system is live on the Polaris Integrated Library System (ILS). This includes the Burton Barr Central Library and 14 branch locations, which handle over 15 million transactions annually. "This was the smoothest migration the library has experienced in its 30-year automation history," said Toni Garvey, city librarian. "The 'go-live' day was practically a nonevent due to the cooperative work of both the library and Polaris teams. The day the library went live, both teams immediately set about working on future enhancements." Garvey attributes the success of the migration to a fifteen-month process based on teamwork and cooperation between Phoenix Public Library and Polaris Library Systems. "During that time," said Garvey, "Polaris showed a strong understanding of the library's workflow for circulation and technical services processes and its unique needs, including the Endeca interface." "Staff at the Phoenix Public Library have been outstanding to work with during the migration," said Polaris President & CEO Bill Schickling. "The library conducted very detailed circulation and point of sale training for 500 staff, which proved to be a key factor in a smooth transition." The Polaris ILS is seamlessly integrated into the library's existing infrastructure, which includes a library-developed Public Access Catalog utilizing the search engine from Endeca Technologies, Inc. The library originally built its catalog and search engine Web site around Endeca in early 2007. By combining regularly updated ILS bibliographic information from Polaris with the Endeca search engine, the library will continue to offer patrons a single source for all information, services, and programs. ###
