“It's great to be able to customize the Polaris checkout screen with patron data elements of our choice.  It maximizes the efficiency of the checkout process.  And with 15 agencies circulating over 7.1 million items per year, it matters.”

- Eva Calcagno, Manager, Washington County Cooperative Library Services, Oregon

Polaris Library Systems Launches SimplyReports, Web-based Report Writer
Point and Click Solution for Creating Over 150,000 Reports

Syracuse, NY, May 2, 2007 Polaris Library Systems, a leading provider of library automation technology, announced today the general release of SimplyReports, a new web-based ad hoc reporting tool for the Polaris Integrated Library System.

Using the interactive forms in SimplyReports, you can create over 150,000 custom reports in the Polaris ILS without knowledge of SQL, relational databases, or the structure of the Polaris ILS database.

Our customers expressed a need to develop complex reports for year-end reporting and data analysis, without relying on extensive training or knowledge of Microsoft SQL. SimplyReports meets this challenge by providing customers of all skill levels, from casual users to advanced IT professionals, the ability to access and analyze their Polaris data. It's a user-friendly complement to our suite of reporting options and we're excited to offer this to our customers," said Jim Mieczkowski, chief information officer at Polaris.

With SimplyReports, the end user selects the specific data elements from drop-down menu combinations, and the software walks the user through the rest. Available data elements include information from patron records, items, holds, bibliographic records, and serials holdings. The user selects from an extensive set of filters and reporting rules to further refine the report. SimplyReports also includes the ability to execute or schedule saved reports individually and in groups, the ability to publish reports to the toolbar within the Polaris staff client, as well as the option to administer security at the system, branch and data levels.

SimplyReports utilizes AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML) technology, and leverages .Net 2.x web services to extend a single installation across multiple instances of Microsoft SQL servers. This program complies with the W3C DOM making it compatible with Internet Explorer (5 or later), Netscape (6 or later) and Mozilla FireFox.
